It has come.
The day we have been struggling for all these long, arduous months.
The day we have been promising for too long.
Rainbow in the Dark #9 is, at last, complete! BEHOLD!!!
Available now in digital download as either a CBZ or PDF, this final issue is as big as it could be. Maybe even literally: it stands at a megalossal 58 pages - TRIPLE the size of a standard Marvel or DC book. And you get all that bulky beauty at no additional cost
. That's right, we're giving you three times the content for the same old .99 cent cost. Are we crazy? We suspect so, having decided it would be "smart" to make a 58-page comic. Heh. But our madness is your gain. Here's the blurb:
"The Veratu hold the population of Donna's city hostage in their sprawling Acropolis. To save them, and to free the rest of the planet from the Gloom forever, our daring band must gather the strength of all the free people of the world and lead them in one last battle. It all comes to a head in this, the final chapter of Rainbow in the Dark!"
We aren't kidding when we say this is the proudest achievement of our career thus far. We have never created a work of equivalent scope or quality. When you open this book and see what's inside, we suspect you'll understand where all the time went. We hope you'll forgive us the long wait when you get to the ending. We hope you'll love us when you see how this all plays out, and how beautiful it looks on the way. Nothing we've ever done has made us feel so strongly about our own work. We hope you can get some piece of that feeling as well when you read it.
It's all the sweeter coming on the heels of our fourth consecutive Harvey Award nomination. The only thing greater than being able to create something that is so deeply fulfilling on both an artistic and intellectual level is being able to think that you aren't crazy for feeling that way. The respect and support of our peers, the recognition of our community that our work has value and meaning; it all adds so much
to the happiness and relief and pure, simple satisfaction at having completed this journey.
On that note, we should give special mention to the stunning illustration
contributed to this issue. We've gotten a lot of beautiful artwork for Rainbow in the Dark; many talented creators have shared their time and skill with us, enriching the Rainbow experience. What Chandra has done sits in a class all its own. Check this out, but you might want to put a towel in your lap first to catch the drool. The colors, children! The colors!
Rainbow in the Dark is finished. The series has said and done everything we set out to say and do. Go give it a read.
We hope you have as much fun as we did. Thank you all for your support during this project, and for all the love and kindness you've shared with us as you read along.
