This is the marketing image me and 
did for our how-to book, The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing Comics. In each title image we tried to capture a moment or a process, or an idea. So for marketing we choose to try and illustrate the white ear bud world. Meaning that however insane and crazy things are outside - you, the consumer, choose what to listen to. Blocking out the traditional forms for advertising media.
Posing the question of, if using traditional media outlets to get the word out about your book - what do you do? What are people open to? What do people want? Where is your potential fanbase and how can you find them.
...and one last note - apparently our how-to book, The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing Comics was in Diamond’s top ten list of best selling books!

so true. Marketing was high art by the time I was born, so I've been trained since birth to ignore it. Only those friends, family, of previous generations notice this stuff, and I really can't understand, it's an old-fashioned culture more vulnerable to being taken advantage of by techniques that have since "arms raced" obnoxious levels.
